Hello,
My name is BJ Bachman and I breed toy and miniature poodles in black and brown. I am a very small kennel, I do not breed every season and usually do not have more than one litter a year. I really do not breed for pet puppies. Occasionally I have more than one puppy born in a litter. If that occurs I may make that puppy available to a pet home.
I breed only my champion males with my champion females. I do this because I am hoping to produce my next champion. My dogs are shown in American Kennel Club rings and sometimes Canadian Kennel Club rings. I do this to validate my dogs' pedigrees and performance. My dogs used for breeding are either AKC or CKC champions with most of them achieving both championships.
My Toy males weigh between 4.0 and 7.0 pounds but they are not considered tiny toys, they are true toys. My Toy females weigh between 3.5 and 7.0 pounds. All of my breeding Toys are from 9 to 10 inches. The miniature I own are under 15 inches and weigh about 15 to 18 pounds. Size is difficult in the Toys as well as Miniatures. Most pups bred for toy size actually turn out to be 10 - 11 inches and weigh 5 - 9 pounds as adults. Most miniatures end up 15 - 16 inches and weigh 20 - 25 pounds as adults.
All of my babies run free in our home which makes it interesting whenever people stop by to visit but I love them and they are part of our family.
Breed standard for poodles can be found by accessing http://www.poodleclubofamerica.org or http://www.akc.org and following the links provided.
For a long time I thought I only wanted female dogs but since having males I have learned that they are just as sweet and wonderful. Each poodle has its own personality. They are all special.
